Rubber Band Invoked to Explain Dark Energy - Space.com   Conventional theory holds that neutrino mass does not change over time. In the new theory, neutrinos gain mass when given some room. As they move apart, a tension develops between them, like that in a stretched rubber band, said Ann Nelson, a physics professor at the University of Washington. The increasing tension is the infamous dark energy, explained Neal Weiner, a physicist at the university and another member of the study team.
Comet Cruiser Glimpses Earth - SpaceDaily  The banner image, taken by ESA's Rosetta comet-chaser spacecraft, shows the Earth-Moon system from a distance of 70 million kilometers (42 million miles). This is close to the maximum distance reached by the spacecraft so far this year. However, this is a tiny distance compared to Rosetta's epic journey when, in 10 years time, it will have travelled distances of over one thousand million kilometers (600 million miles) from Earth, and about 800 million kilometers (480 million miles) from the Sun, to meet Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.This image was taken by the Navigation Camera System (NAVCAM) on board the Rosetta spacecraft

NASA Selects Future Mission Concepts For Study - Science Dailyy  Left:  Spiral galaxy NGC 7331, imaged by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope. (Courtesy of NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory  NASA has selected nine studies, including one from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., to investigate new ideas for future mission concepts within its Astronomical Search for Origins Program. The products from these concept studies will be used for future planning of missions complementing the existing suite of operating missions, including NASA's Hubble and Spitzer Space Telescopes, and developmental missions such as the James Webb Space Telescope and Terrestrial Planet Finder.
