Inside the Giants: Puzzling Differences in Jupiter and Saturn - SpaceDaily   Scientists aren't sure what the interiors of Jupiter and Saturn look like or how the planets formed. But a new study of their insides suggests they took different paths to giant status. Researchers modeled 50,000 what-ifs of internal structure using real data from the two planets and lab experiments that show how material behaves under extreme pressure. They found Saturn has a huge core and Jupiter may have none.
SpaceDev To Design Lunar Dish Observatory Mission - SpaceDaily  SpaceDev has been awarded a small contract by Lunar Enterprise Corporation of California for the next phase in designing a mission and spacecraft for a lunar lander program. The low-cost, unmanned mission is intended to land a small dish antenna near the south pole of the Moon. From that location it will be in near-constant sunlight for solar power generation, and can perform multi-wavelength astronomy while communicating with ground stations on Earth.

kayaker at Great Falls of Potomac

Rivers worked overtime to cut gorges - MSNBC  Left: A kayaker makes his way through a roaring set of rapids at the Great Falls of the Potomac in northern Virginia. The river began quickly cutting into bedrock about 35,000 years ago, carving out gorges that remain scenic wonders today.  The Potomac and Susquehanna rivers worked double-time to create gorges that remain scenic wonders today, carving through bedrock at twice the usual rate. It was cut during the same cold, stormy period when the Susquehanna was grinding out Holtwood Gorge near Harrisburg, Pa., The two rivers began cutting these gorges about 35,000 years ago, as the last ice age was advancing, and their unusually rapid activity eased by about 13,000 to 14,000 years ago.
