Seeing the Universe with Einsteinís Glasses - Space.com  Albert Einstein, who is being remembered this year for his amazing scientific output from 1905, predicted this so-called gravitational lensing.  Earlier attempts to measure the lensing of far-away quasars had failed to see an effect that matched the standard picture from cosmology Ė raising some doubts about the validity of that model. But an analysis of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, released last week, puts an end to the controversy..
Ohio Lab Tests Space Propulsion System - Space.com   The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has invested about $30 million in space-sail technology, something that existed solely in science-fiction novels a decade ago. Yet the reflective solar sail could power missions to the sun and beyond within a decade.  Just in case, the fabric, which resembles Mylar, has rip-stop threads to keep it from pulling apart when the chamber is closed and the air is pumped out.

Nano Could Hasten Hydrogen - Space.com  Left:  'Research has shown that billionth-of-a-meter-scale nanotubes can channel the hydrogen separated from water molecules and keep the atoms apart before they can recombine with oxygen'. Image credit: University of Pittsburgh/ Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering. "It would be very realistic to say a solution for the solar generation of hydrogen could be forthcoming in three to four years," said Craig Grimes, a materials scientist at Penn State University in University Park, Pa. Grimes said for hydrogen to replace oil completely, the United States alone would need to generate more than 250,000 tons of the gas daily.
