Mutations and Birth Defects

    The term "essentially" in "essentially flawless" refers to mutations and birth defects. As biology texts are quick to point out, some hereditable genetic drift is essential in order to enable evolution. At the same time, presumably, this "species drift" can't be too prominent or species would lose their integrity over time.
