Ceil Jonas: Was Wayne State's youngest graduate

SOUTHFIELD -- A funeral service for Ceil Jonas, Wayne State University's youngest graduate, will be at 11 a.m. today in the Ira Kaufman Chapel, 18325 W. Nine Mile, in Southfield.
Mrs. Jonas died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, of urosepsis at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. The Southfield resident was 94.
Mrs. Jonas graduated from Wayne State at age 19 and from Central High School at age 14. She had been accepted at Vassar College, but was not legally old enough to live in a dormitory.
After earning a degree in social work, she launched a career that included a stint at the Wayne County Abstract Department.
Mrs. Jonas was a life member of Hadassah, co-founded the Congregation Shaarey Zedek and served as its secretary.
Survivors include a son, Lawrence; and two grandchildren.
Burial was in Clover Hill Park Cemetery in Birmingham.
