Scientists Hope Bush Space Plan Restores Mars Greenhouse Funds - Space.com  A couple of leafy, green lettuce plants poke up from the bottom of the coffee-table-size dome. They are just for show, a second sprouting of heads that first grew in this mini-Mars. "Back when we started this, there was no manned mission to Mars at all," systems engineer Philip Fowler said at the Space Life Sciences Lab. "It didn't exist. So we had somewhat of a problem in justifying why we were doing this."
Movie Shows Hydrocarbon Haze Huygens Will Encounter During Titan Entry - SpaceDaily  As the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft approaches a July encounter with Saturn and its moon Titan, a team of University of California, Berkeley, astronomers has produced a detailed look at the moon's cloud cover and what the Huygens probe will see as it dives through the atmosphere of Titan to land on the surface. They assembled the pictures into a movie that shows what Huygens will encounter when it descends to the surface in January 2005, six months after the Cassini spacecraft enters orbit around Saturn. The movie can be viewed at http://astron.berkeley.edu/~madamkov/titan/.

UCLA Geophysicist Forecasts Strong Quake By Sept 2004 - SpaceDaily  A US geophysicist has set the scientific world ablaze by claiming to have cracked a holy grail: accurate earthquake prediction, and warning that a big one will hit southern California by Sept 5. The team at UCLA's Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics accurately predicted a 6.5-magnitude quake in central California last December as well as an 8.1-magnitude temblor that struck the Japanese island of Hokkaido in September. And he has made a chilling prediction that a quake measuring at least 6.4 magnitude on the Richter scale will hit a 31,200-square-kilometre area of southern California by September 5.
