(ALC) and Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA)
Acetyl-l-carnitine and alpha-lipoic acid offer another approach to rejuvenating aging cells, and, perhaps, slowing the rate of aging. Juvenon has reported the results of a placebo-controlled, double-blind, crossover test of the effects of ALC and ALA on the 9 cellular health biomarkers:
total antioxidant status
"For 8 of the 9 biomarkers, a majority of subjects registered positive results when they were taking the Juvenon product, compared to when they took the placebo. The results for one biomarker, alpha tocopherol, were equivocal."
"The scientists concluded that supplementation with Juvenon Energy FormulaTM in the majority of healthy elderly subjects both raised the antioxidant capacity of the plasma and blunted exercise-induced oxidative stress."
Also, a majority of subjects showed higher "Total Scores" on the Psychological General Well Being Index.
Curiously, a "majority" of subjects, but not all of them benefitted from taking ALA and ALC. You wonder about the ones who didn't.
It's worth noting that ALA and ALC show no benefits for the young... only for the aged.
Bring on the Broccoli, Turmeric, Garlic, and Alpha-Lipoic Acid
One of the most potent cellular antioxidants is glutathione perioxidase. Like other vital cellular protection agencies, it drops off with age just when it's most needed. However, broccoli (and broccoli extract), turmeric/curcumin, garlic/onion, and alpha-lipoic acid can restore glutathione to youthful levels. So keep eating your broccoli, turmeric, and garlic!
Rewinding the Cellular Clocks
These researches are rapidly showing us how to trip the clocks of aging. The missing ingredient now is restoring the appearances of the negligible numbers of our senior citizenry who are actually into doing something about it..
Actually, it looks as though precious few senior citizens are going to tumble to this any time soon. There hasn't been a stampede to buy resveratrol or try calorie restriction diets. On the contrary, everyone is getting fatter and fatter.
